Durham artist Mike Butler was born in Montreal
on September 13th, 1945. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1980 and pursued an interest in watercolour painting. For the past 15 years he has been exploring the computer as a tool for creating
beautiful, luminous images. Note his use of the lotus as a recurring theme in this recent series. These have a highly symbolic significance -- as Butler notes,
"[These] images seem to
have blossomed fully formed on my computer screen like a lotus from a paradise of living
light."
Indeed, quiet contemplation of this series evokes a natural radiance in the world of the viewer. The images will provide years of enjoyment as one never tires of looking at them. There is something new to notice in each visit.
